Edit macro plans

Trainers can structure training cycles with appropriate load and recovery patterns and align phases with competition schedules.

Updated over a year ago

Design a new macro template by clicking on the green button Create new Plan in the upper right-hand corner of the macro section.

You will start with an empty configuration. Enter a name, a description, and configure the start of the plan and how many weeks it will cover. Additionally, the plan can be linked to either a team to include competitions from the teams calendar in the macro plan or an athlete to show competitions from the athlete's personal calendar and injuries (available in the full Macro package).

Main configuration

The configuration will update your plan live, so you can see a preview "behind" the configuration pane. Changes are applied when you hit the Save button.

Edit macro configuration: Name is updated "live" in the plan

In the main configuration, you can set most of the macro's attributes and decide how the individual rows of your macro work together to form a complete plan. See more on the row configuration in the corresponding section below.

After the plan's configuration is saved for the first time, you can access this configuration via the Settings link in the top right. There is one other configuration that is usually set when starting to design a macro plan: periodization

Periodization

Trayn also gives you the option to edit the macro planning framework. Click Periodization in the top right to change the number of peaks and period names. You can use built-in periodization models (single/double/triple), create your own customized cycles and sub-periods or import the periodization model from another plan.

Overview of available periodization models: single, double, triple, or custom

If you click the "Custom model" you can define all the periods and sub-periods.

See the article Export and Import Macro Plans for how to import a model from another plan.

Most periodization models utilize a two level hierarchy of periods. If you don't want to sub-divide periods, untick the checkbox labeled "Use 2-level periodization with sub-periods". If the option "Goals for planning sections" is activated, you get an additional row where you can store more textual information for each period.

Row configuration

You can edit the entire structure by of the macro plan by configuring individual rows. Click on the Settings link to open the workload configuration.

For every row, you decide what information it should carry and give it a descriptive name which will be shown in the first column in the macro. You can choose from several types of rows (data types, described below) and can associate training areas with specific values.

Value with unit

Choose a unit and define different types of training. You can then assign different quantities to those training types. This fits perfectly when aggregating the volume of planned types of training.

Example: When using time in minutes, you might want to plan how much time is spent of different training focus.

Example for "Value with unit": week from Jul 25 to Jul 31 2022 with 2:00 in Cross Training, 1:10 in Strength & Conditioning, and a few others

Predefined values

These are very similar to "value with unit" above. You can use this configuration to define a set of valid options and then use these options inside the row.

Example: Using different levels for the different energy systems, you can set a rough focus and how this will evolve throughout the weeks of the plan.

Example for "Predefined values": week from Jul 11 to Jul 17 with different priorities and energy systems for every week

Percent

This can be used to distribute an attribute across a few aspects without having to define specific units.

Example: You might want to plan the total training time to be split specifically among different training aspects.

Example for "Percent": Distribute across alactic, lactate, and aerobic system

Text

This will let you put simple text into your cells. Short text can be shown directly in the table while long text will be cropped.

Count of workouts or workout days

If you just want to plan for the number of workouts or workout days per week, you can use one of these two settings.

Edit columns

In order to add content to the rows, click directly into the table and you will see a lightweight editor layer highlighting the row.

Depending on data type and visualization, you may see different controls to change the content. For numerical input, you can change the content directly by entering the new value.

For composite values, select the title of the value to change and use the arrows at the top/bottom of the cell to change the value. You can change the step size using the controls below.

All values for the row are saved as soon as you click the Save button. Cancel will discard all changes to the row.
