In Trayn, you can use test results to individualize your exercises parameters. That means that you can define the load, duration, or any other parameter as a percentage of a specific test result.
Examples
One repetition max
You can let athletes do deadlifts with 80% of their 1-repetition-max (1RM). When you assign this workout to an athlete with an 1RM 120 kg, they will see that their target load for the deadlift is 92kg.
Heart rate or lactate threshold
If you want to let athletes train at a specific intensity, a popular approach is to link a theoretical intensity to a percentage of an athlete's maximum heart rate. For this, you test the athlete's maximum heart rate and use this when planning the training. You can prepare a workout consisting of alternating intervals of medium (e.g. < 60% max HR) and high intensity (e.g. 85-90% max HR) and Trayn will translate this to specific heart rate ranges for an athlete. Paired with a HR monitor or watch, they can then adapt their speed accordingly.
The theoretical intensity can also be based on lactate threshold or power output (on a bike). Again, you may want to define a test to determine specific values for your athletes so that they can easily understand their target values when training. See Training Zones for additional information on different models.
Setup
Here are the necessary steps to configure this. You need access to your environments administration settings for this.
Test Parameter
First, you need to decide which test results you want to use. You can configure them in the Admin UI on the Test Parameters page.
If the test result is specific for an exercise (e.g. "load" will be different for most exercises), tick the exercise specific checkbox of that test parameter.
Exercise Parameter
Link the test parameter to the matching exercise parameter. Open the Exercise Parameters in the admin UI and select an exercise parameter for editing, i.e. "Load" and activate the test parameters that you want to use.
Test
If you don't already have one, you need to define a test to record results for your test parameter. See Design Performance Tests for detailed instructions.
β
Note: If you're using a test parameter that is "exercise specific" you have to link that test to that exercise, so the system knows, for which exercise the test result is relevant.
Individualize Exercise
Once you have configured your parameters, you are ready to use them in a workout.
Open an existing session template or create a new one in the Micro section.
Add an exercise. If you use exercise specific parameters, make sure to select the exercise you have linked from your test.
Open the Edit parameters dialog and select the exercise parameter, which you have linked to your test parameter.
In the dropdown for the unit select the entry "% of <your test parameter>", i.e. "% of Load".
As value, enter the desired percentage value, i.e. "80".
After you save the session template and assign it to an athlete, you can inspect the calculated value for the exercise parameter by opening the workout in the athlete's calendar.
In the screenshot below you can observe, that the load parameter for Barbell Deadlift is individualized to 72 kg because the most recent test result for that athlete was 90 kg. On the other hand, for Romanian Deadlift the value still reads 80% of load, because there were no test result for Load linked to the Romanian Deadlift exercise.
