Test Parameters

Record test results and use them for individual programming

A lot of workouts are based on individual measurement of the athlete's physiology or their prior performance. Workouts can specify the exercise target heart rate based on the athlete's maximum heart rate or a load based on the athlete's one-rep max.

These Test Parameters can be configured to your requirements and connected to tests and exercise parameters.

Manage parameters

From the Admin interface, choose Exercise Parameters to see the parameters available in your environment. You can search by their name (e.g. Heart Rate max) or abbreviation (e.g. "HR max") to find them quickly.

Units

This describes how the parameter is measured. You can select one or more units that are used for this parameter.

Predefined measurement values

In case the test result is not not numeric (i.e. "excellent", "good", "mediocre", ...) or is a static list (i.e. RPE 1 to RPE 10), they can be configured as pre-defined.

UI for managing pre-defined measurement values: the checkbox "Use pre-defined values" is ticked and there are several values with a label of "RPE 1", "RPE 2", ... defined.

When entering test results, one of the predefined values can be picked from a drop-down list.

Exercise-specific

If the test result is specific for an exercise (e.g. "load" will be different for most exercises), tick the exercise specific checkbox of that test parameter.

Measurement time

Test results usually refer to a specific day. However, if you want to store an explicit time of day when the measurement was taken, you can activate this option, and when saving measurements for this test parameter, a time stamp can be added.

Recommendations

  1. Adapt
All parameters can be changed to your requirement. Try to use names that are commonly used in your organization to avoid other administrators from adding the same parameter with a different name.

  2. Remove unused
If a parameter is not used or does not really change anything in a workout, remove the parameter. Your trainers will thank you

  3. Avoid duplicate abbreviations
The abbreviations are shown in the smaller views, such as inside a workout description. Try to be unambiguous with the abbreviations but keep them short.

  4. Choose the right unit
If multiple units can be used for a specific parameter, but only one makes sense, try to use this. For time-based parameters, such as a break, most often the unit of measurement is minutes. For mass-based parameters, such as load, choose kg/lbs instead of g/oz.
